With Matt Simmonds and Lewis Buchanan out with injuries sustained at the first Irish NPS, it was left to Joe Smith and Matti Lehikoinen to fly the Nuke Proof flag at the first round of the World Cup.

Pietermaritzburg played host to a super physical track, a long flat pedal at the halfway point. Matti and Joe finished 15th and 38th respectively.
