Chris Hutchens and James Shirley's BUCS 2011 Report
iXS Sport Division and Answer Products riders Chris Hutchens and James Shirley represented their respective universities at BUCS 2011 in Wales. Find out how they got on below:
More success for the team this weekend following a weekend of racing at the British University championships at Moelfre Hall, Wales.
Both Chris and James competed in the Downhill and Cross Country events over the weekend where they enjoyed the luxury of accommodation and avoided the typical cold, wet and windy camping endured by many of the other students. We topped this off with some amazing food with fresh herbs just to rub it in and take advantage of the cooking facilities.
It was more successful for the pair in the Downhill where Chris secured a Silver Medal and a Bronze for the University of Edinburgh. James competing for Strathclyde University racing onboard his Orange Blood came down into 12th place.
In the XC neither had much luck. Chris made a great start onboard his Orange Elite and was in the top 20 up until he punctured on the descent on his 4th lap. Unfortunately James had ripped his tyre on his 3rd lap meaning he had to retire. He was luckily on hand to help Chris fix his puncture. Chris tried to catch the field up but managed to again get another puncture on the 5th lap.
